The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has issued a final reminder to truck owners: the deadline to install speed limiting devices is 1 January 2026. Fleet operators with non-compliant vehicles face strict enforcement, including potential prohibition from public roads.
Which vehicles require speed limiters in Singapore?
Trucks with a maximum laden weight between 3,501 kg and 12,000 kg must have speed limiting devices installed. This requirement has been progressively applied to existing vehicles as part of Singapore's efforts to improve heavy vehicle safety.
How many trucks are still non-compliant?
Despite SMS reminders from authorities since early 2025, SPF reports that 402 of 2,485 targeted vehicles — around 16.2% — remained without the required devices as of 20 December 2025.
What are the penalties for non-compliance?
Immediate enforcement (from 1 January 2026):
Non-compliant vehicles may be prohibited from operating on public roads
Traffic Police will conduct strict enforcement
Upcoming legislative changes (2026):
Maximum fines for non-compliance or device tampering to increase from S$1,000 to S$10,000
Companies caught speeding may receive rectification orders under the Workplace Safety and Health Act, requiring speed limiters across their entire fleet
Non-compliance with rectification orders carries fines up to S$50,000
Companies without compliant devices may face difficulties obtaining or renewing bizSAFE certification
